Back in 1967 the Beatles hit single “All You Need is Love” became the anthem for a generation tired of wars, global tension, internal political strife and cultural upheaval. Evidently, love was in short supply and that lack keenly felt across communities the world over. 

The love challenge – to embrace as well as to share – tops my ‘Resolutions’ list for 2024. Everything we want to be and everything we want to achieve hinges on love. Do I love myself enough to take self-care seriously? Will I invest time in my dreams and aspirations? Will I be as gracious and generous towards others as I would have them be towards me? Will I be daring and trusting enough to put faith into action? 

Jesus advocated for love long before the Beatles did! He preached it and he demonstrated it in his life, death and resurrection. He took love it to its final destiny when He said, “God is Love”. Then he opened wide his arms and invited us to, “Abide in My Love” (John 15:9). 

Maybe this is the New Year’s resolution to end all resolutions: All we need is this love, because in it is the power and assurance that frees us to be everything he has called us to be.  Resolve to Love!
